Fourth Grade Elijah's Cups

Fourth graders used the millefiori cane technique to create these beautiful polymer clay glasses. I emphasized the use of contrasting colors and they had great fun designing their spirals and stripes.
The clay is sliced and put directly onto the glass.

Eighth Grade Wire Portraits

Eighth graders learned about American artist Alexander Calder, who is most famous for his mobiles and wire sculptures.

I taught the eighth graders about the properties of wire and demonstrated several ways to use tools to manipulate the material, including coiling, looping, and safe cutting procedures. Then, they used these skills to create wire self-portraits.
