Eighth Grade Wire Portraits

Eighth graders learned about American artist Alexander Calder, who is most famous for his mobiles and wire sculptures.



I taught the eighth graders about the properties of wire and demonstrated several ways to use tools to manipulate the material, including coiling, looping, and safe cutting procedures. Then, they used these skills to create wire self-portraits.
