Sixth Grade Bamboo Paintings

Sixth graders used traditional sumi-e ink materials to create their own ink. They learned each brushstroke and how to combine them to create these beautiful bamboo paintings.

Before we even started painting, we discussed the aesthetics of Japanese and Chinese brushpainting. We looked at two examples and the students noticed that there was very little background, so that the focus would be on the subject of the painting.
