Seventh Grade Artists' Choice Gallery, 2019-2020

For our last assignment of the year, I asked my middle school students to choose their favorite work of art that they had created all year. They could even choose a project they made on their own, outside of art class. They wrote artist statements explaining why they chose the work. I was happy to see such a great variety of choices, and I can't wait to see more from them as eighth graders!

For projects completed in class, you can click on the name of the project to see the lesson, and/or further description of the project.

I chose this because I think that it is a really neat image. I like the colors and the design on it as well. (AlF)

I have chosen my homemade Stratocaster. Music is one of my passions and I learned a lot from building my own guitar. And I use it every day. (AF)

This Surrealist Apple Drawing is a piece of art that was a bit of a play on words with humor. I chose this piece of work for the Rashi Online Art Gallery because I wanted to make people laugh, especially right now. (LG)

I chose to submit one of my Ten Plagues Digital Art pieces. I chose this because it really looks like the thing I was aiming for which was a frog eye and it took a lot of effort. (SK)

I chose to submit the project called “Draw Me a Song”. This project is supposed to capture an important part of a song you love. In this project you were supposed to listen to a song with your eyes closed and pick a part that stood out to you or an overall theme. Then you would draw what you heard. I chose this piece because I had a lot of fun making it. I also loved how I could pick a song you really enjoyed and draw what you felt. I got to make this really colorful and bright because of the song I picked. This project was very exciting and I had a lot of fun making it. (MM)

The piece of work I chose to submit was the Shattered Values art work. The shattered values art project was when we drew anything we wanted, broke it into sections, and shaded each of the sections. I enjoyed making this because I enjoy drawing and it was really fun to shade each piece of it, and the outcome was great. (BM)

I liked the Draw Me a Song project because I was able to choose what I wanted to draw. I liked how my project turned out and I thought it was fun to express how a song made me feel.

The Pop Art Onomatopoeia assignment kind of challenged me because it was hard to think of a design but once I did it came pretty easy even though it took a long time. (SR)

I chose this piece of work for the Rashi Online Art Gallery because when I looked at the picture I noticed that I could make a similar picture, but different. I replaced the big hat with 3 smaller ones, and a coat with a robe. So the pictures look the same but completely different. (SL)

I chose to submit the shattered values project because I think I did the best work on that project. (ES)
I chose the Ten Plagues Digital Art because I am Jewish and Passover is a big holiday for my family and I. I also chose it because it was really fun to make and made me find a cool project to do when I  am bored. (GV)

I have chosen to submit my Pop Art Onomatopoeia art piece. I chose this piece of work for the Rashi Online Art Gallery because I thought that it was very interesting to look at and was fun to do. It’s something really anyone can do at home that doesn’t require any more materials than markers and paper. (IW)

I chose a Digital Art Mandala from the Myoats digital drawing program. I choose this work of art as I really enjoy it and find it very cool. It almost has a rainbow effect to it which I enjoy. This was made to represent the plague of darkness from Passover. (AZ)

I chose these digital art pieces because I like how symmetrical they are. (EZ)

This piece, my quarantine portrait, really shows how I have been dealing
with quarantine and it made me filled with joy. (NS)

This is a piece of art I created from the “Draw me a Song” unit. In this project you had to choose a song. Then you had to close your eyes and draw whatever you saw. You also had to include a line from the song. I loved getting to use my imagination and really just drawing whatever I wanted. (RF)

I have chose to submit the project because it was a super fun project to put together. Just the whole aspect of the things that you need for quarantine and running around the house gathering things was super fun. Also, organizing the items around your head was challenging but fun.
